Lying in the region of the Potomac River's headwaters, Hampshire County is the oldest county in West Virginia with the oldest incorporated town, Romney, as the county seat. Originally part of Lord Fairfax's Northern Neck Proprietary, the land was first settled in the second quarter of the eighteenth century. It has a rich heritage and beautiful landscapes.
